During the week of 16 May 2003, the CNCdecided to suspend the publication of two private newspapers, “Misamu” andLe Temps. In addition, the publications “Jeunesse Action” and “l’Espoir”received official warnings from the council.”These measures, which appear to be part of an intimidation campaign againstthe private press, are a means of preventing citizens from having access tounbiased news and information about the government’s various plans,” Reporters Without Borders’ Secretary-General Robert Ménard said in a letter to CNC President Pierre Marie Ndong. The organisation urged him to reverse the measures and to allow the targeted media outlets to continue publishing. In a 12 May press release, the CNC ordered the twice-monthly Misamu tocease publishing, on account of a legal dispute over ownership of thenewspaper. The legal battle pits Senator Jean-Pierre Nzoghe Nguema, formerleader of the opposition party Morena and the paper’s founder, against NoélNgwa Nguema, the paper’s current publisher, who is also a priest.According to information collected by Reporters Without Borders, Misamu plans to continue publishing for the moment, as it has not received an official suspensionnotice. The CNC’s decision follows revelations in the press about themysterious death of Pascaline Bongo’s aide-de-camp. Pascaline Bongo isPresident Omar Bongo’s eldest daughter and principal private secretary.Misamu had accused Finance Ministry Secretary-General Eyamba Tsima MauriceNestor of being behind the aide-de-camp’s death. On 15 May, the CNC suspended the weekly Le Temps for three months. Thenewspaper was targeted because of a 14 May article, entitled “Over 50billion CFA Francs (over US$89 million; 76 million euros) squandered in twonights”, in which questions were raised about financing for an organisationthat is coordinating independence celebrations in August. The contentiousarticle was “likely to undermine the nation’s standing,” the CNC said.In addition, two other newspapers received official warnings from thecouncil. The first paper, Jeunesse Action, was warned after it publishedphotographs of mutilated persons and children being raped in its 12 to 19May issue. The CNC said the images were likely to “offend readers’sensibilities.” As for l’Espoir, it was warned because it did not fill outthe paperwork necessary for the launch of a publication, as required underunder Gabon’s Communications Code.Reporters Without Borders recalls that Communications Minister Medhi Teale recently granted 500 million CFA Francs (approx. US$890,000; 762,000 euros) to the private press as part of the National Press Development Fund (Fonds national pour le développement de la presse). Ivanić-Grad starts branding ‘vankuša’ and ‘white sausages’

first_imgThe first step has been made, but now a long process of branding and merging with the tourist offer is just following. Most importantly, for the whole story to come to life, the local population must live that story, as well as the local caterers who must offer these indigenous specialties. “We have created brands of two products that should be recognizable to consumers. And after that, it can become a brand. They have been produced for hundreds of years since the frontier age. This is a Choline specialty, white sausage can be said to be a poor product, but traditional food is appreciated. White sausage is made from pork, corn flour flavored with garlic, pepper and salt. “Vankuš is a dough made of wheat flour for strudel or bread, with a filling of cow’s cheese, eggs and corn flour” said Marica Svetličić, branding project manager. Namely, “Vankus” is a wheat flour dough for strudel or bread, with a filling of cow’s cheese, eggs and corn flour, while “White sausages” sausages stuffed with meat and corn flour with spices. The whole idea of the importance of branding the mentioned gastro products is not new, and we have been working on the branding process for a year now. The project was done in 4 phases. First it was necessary to define the exact recipe as well as the producers, an analysis was made as well as the rules of production and production, and now followed by a public presentation of the entire project. Ivanić-Grad presented an initiative with which they want to brand their traditional autochthonous specialties called “Preservation of the production of traditional specialties” white sausage “and Moslavina” vankuša “.  Photo: TZ Ivanić Grad White sausages “Vankuša” and “Bele kobase” are indigenous specialties that originated in the once poor times from food that was available in households, they were prepared often, and today they are a real rarity. Indigenous (indigenous) regional food products have the purpose of preserving the culture, history and tradition, or identity of the region and have a significant role in promoting the region and creating the recognition of the region based on a very differentiated identity. The direct link of the product with a certain geographical area gives additional value and recognizability to that area and contributes to rural and tourist development and recognizability. The goal of the project is to enrich the tourist offer and contribute to the enrichment of the native gastronomic offer, they point out from Ivanić-Grad. “In our area there are dishes and preparations that do not exist anywhere else. Our goal is to raise these dishes to a higher level, to be recognizable throughout the country and beyond! This is the beginning of the story and we have a long and challenging road ahead of us. But so far we have successfully solved all the challenges”Said the mayor of Ivanić-Grad, Javor Bojan Leš. Vankušlast_img read more

Singapore economy seen to contract 4-7% as pandemic impact worsens

first_imgThe circuit breaker measures will start being lifted in phases on June 2.The ministry cautioned that “there continues to be a significant degree of uncertainty over the length and severity of the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as the trajectory of the economic recovery, in both the global and Singapore economies.”Irvin Seah, senior economist at Singapore’s largest bank DBS, said the downward revision was not surprising as the previous growth projection was no longer tenable after Singapore extended its semi-lockdown beyond May 4.He added that the full impact of the pandemic will be felt only in the April-June period, saying that the “significantly weaker global demand, labor shortage in the construction sector, supply chain disruptions and restrictive measures imposed during the circuit breaker will inflict a severe blow to the economy.”Topics : This marked the third time the ministry has cut its economic projection for Singapore for 2020 since the virus outbreak earlier this year. The previous revision came in March. The Singapore economy last went into negative growth in 2001, when annual GDP fell by 1.1 percent. The ministry said in a statement that the latest downgrade was due to “the deterioration in the external demand outlook for Singapore as well as the expected economic impact” from a semi-lockdown implemented by Singapore to curb the spread of COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the virus. The semi-lockdown, which led to the shutdown of most workplace premises in Singapore, has “dampened domestic economic activity, along with domestic consumption,” it said. Singapore further downgraded its 2020 growth forecast on Tuesday, projecting a 4 to 7 percent contraction as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic has worsened. The Ministry of Trade and Industry previously forecast the highly trade-dependent city state’s gross domestic product would shrink by 1 to 4 percent in 2020.The revision coincided with the release of data showing the economy had contracted in the first three months of this year by 0.7 percent year on year, and by an annualized 4.7 percent from the previous quarter.last_img read more

Syracuse draw specialist Morgan Widner left game in first half with right knee injury

first_img Facebook Twitter Google+ Morgan Widner left Syracuse’s matchup with Albany in the first half with an apparent right-knee injury. With SU leading 9-2, the sophomore fought for a draw on the 30-yard line across from Albany’s sideline before she fell down and held her knee. The referees stopped play and allowed two Orange trainers to tend to Widner on the field. After a few minutes, she was helped off the turf and wasn’t putting pressure on her right leg. She sat behind the Orange bench and continued to receive treatment. As the Orange went into the half with a 11-2 lead, Widner proceeded to the locker room on crutches. She re-emerged before the second half with her right knee heavily wrapped. SU head coach Gary Gait couldn’t provide details on the injury after the game.“I haven’t checked on Morgan,” Gait said. “I’m sure she’ll be seen, and we’ll find out.“She hurt herself. We’ll see what the results are when we get them.”AdvertisementThis is placeholder textThe draw control specialist has had an uncharacteristic start to the 2018 season. She’s recorded just four draw controls in limited playing time through three games. Widner has shared duties at the faceoff X with junior Julie Cross.  Gait said two weeks ago that the two would share draw control opportunities based on matchups. This past summer, the NCAA announced a new draw control rule that limits three players from each team to fight for the draw. Gait said that this past week, draws will be “50-50” as each team adjusts to the new rule.Widner had a standout year as a freshman in 2017, starting every game. She ranked seventh in the nation in draw controls per game (7.09). She totaled 156 draws, the third-most in a single-season by any SU player, and set the program record for a freshman. Widner finished the year as an Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable mention.Cross took the remainder of the draws after Widner left the game and won four of Syracuse’s 14 draws in the eventual 19-12 win. Albany finished with 19 draws. Widner was seen exiting the Carrier Dome on crutches with her knee wrapped. The Daily Orange will update this story as more details become available.“To see one of our players go down like that,” sophomore defender Kerry Defliese said, “it’s heartbreaking. We hope she gets better.” Comments Published on February 22, 2018 at 8:55 pm Contact Nick: [email protected] | @nick_a_alvarezlast_img read more
