David Warner tonight became only the second batsman after Virat Kohli to go past the 800-run mark in a single season of the Indian Premier League.Kohli had reached the milestone earlier in the ninth edition and set a new benchmark by storming past 900 in RCB’s last league game. He currently has 919 runs and holds the Orange Cap and can even become the first ever to score 1000 runs in one IPL edition. Warner, skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad, elected to bat in the IPL 2016 final , and led his side to an explosive start against the more fancied Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Australian southpaw got into groove by first hitting Australian compatriot Shane Warner and before clobbering Chris Gayle for a maximum.Warner did not shy away from taking on Iqbal Abdulla either and hammered him for a huge one as the ball sailed into the stands at long-on.The focus this IPL has been rightly on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers but Warner has been as destructive as the two RCB stalwarts.Warner has led Sunrisers from the front and unleashed a flurry of furious shots in the final, blasting his ninth fifty of the season. He looked set for a hundred but he fell to Iqbal Abdulla for a 38-ball 69 and finished with 848 runs, the second highest scorer this season.
